flowerbird

FLOWERBIRD, originally uploaded by flymissy.

This little lovely actually sits in her own box and is designed to hang on a wall. She’s entirely recycled as I used old Habitat packaging tissue for her body.  I used to work there briefly while I was pregnant and would bring home bags of paper/bubble wrap that were just being thrown out.

Her decoration is directly inspired by this Meakin design: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oliveonline/1498280971/ Of course, I’ve taken it down to just black on white which shows off the pattern nicely I think. You can read more about her here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/oliveonline/2171563290/ and she’s available in my etsy shop – yay! http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=8802052

midwinter comport

Midwinter comport, originally uploaded by flymissy.

Yep, I’d have called it a cake stand too if I hadn’t spent about half an hour trawling through ebay to find another : )  Turns out though that this single layer stand is called a comport.  Every day is a school day, huh?

Check out that handpainted design. I love it’s ‘atomicness’ (another made up word perhaps?).  I’ve been informed by a fellow flickrite that it’s a Jessie Tait design so I’m hoping this will sell well on ebay.  Yeah, I’d love to keep it but needs must.  And I don’t NEED a comport.  Not another one anyway, heh!

Meemo

Meemo, originally uploaded by flymissy.

Renamed by my daughter (see my flickr for the full story!) just yesterday. There are 2 of them cut from the same felted jumper. I crocheted the eyes and, even though I’ve used a graduated yarn, both sets match pretty well.

The idea was that if my daughter was to lose one, there would always be another in reserve! She’s now 18 months old and only now showing an interest in them. And to be honest once stuffed, they looked pretty different. This one has a more masculine look (if you can use that word about an almost featureless softie!) and the other is more delicate.

I think softies is something that’s missing in my shop at the moment so maybe I should crank up the sewing machine? Too many ideas, not enough hours…. ♥

obligatory sock shot!

new carpet, originally uploaded by flymissy.

Finally the room is finished so I can crack on with crafting again (this is just the carpet – check my flickr for the whole thing!)

I think I’m feeling all papier mache like at the moment and those take me AGES to complete so it may be a little while before I can show you something new. Maybe I’ll entertain you with a little of what I’ve done before? It’s quite possible I’ll completely change my mind by this evening and do something textiley instead! Hmm, I do have got some new felted sleeves ready to make some new wristwarmers… where are my beads?

a week off?

a week off, originally uploaded by flymissy.

Ah, there hasn’t been much crafting here lately as it’s been annual leave time for the hubby. Have I sat around with a glass of wine and my feet up? Not for a minute!

I’ve been decorating the bedroom ready to sell the house and he’s been looking after the little one. He’s back in work tomorrow and we’re both exhausted! The bedroom looks lovely though, well worth all the effort. Check out my flickr (right) and I’ll be sure to upload some piccies soon. There’s also some pics of the detritus that’s been left ALL OVER the upstairs whilst the decorating has been going on. It’s still not sorted but hey, it doesn’t happen overnight, right?

Oh, I picked a deep raspberry shade that isn’t shown here and I don’t drink : )

Boo Boo goes retro!

This little sculpture was sold today so I thought I’d share her story with you.

She’s created with papier mache over a wire frame and decorated with paper and a little ink only – and twigs for antlers of course! She stands proud in a sturdy box frame which I covered with lovely mulberry paper. Boo Boo is totally recycled, right down to her red crochet jumpsuit yarn!

I just love her cheeky little smile and I think she’ll turn up again in my work, she’s just too cute not to.

CLUSTER crochet ring – 007

This is the first cluster ring I’ve made and it turned out alright I think. It’s a bit hit and miss, the final effect that is, but I like this one. I’ve got some big amber chips too, I’m looking forward to using them!

Available in my etsy shop if you’re feeling hungry (with more details too)!

garnet wrist warmers

Ooooh – cosy and totally recycled!

I felted a wool mix cardigan for these wristwarmers and trimmed them with matching garnet beads from a broken necklace. You can wear them either way up too – I should take another shot of that and of them together *makes mental note only to forget it seconds later*.  Could they be described as jewellery?  I think so, especially if you just wore one.  I’m definitely going to make more of these in other colours, I really like them.

Like the photo? It’s taken with my hand on the holographic cover of a scrap book! I knew it’d come in handy one day, think I’ll use it again too.

the latest ring…

Here’s my latest little lovely with a Blue Lace Agate stone. It’s the 9th semi-precious one so far (I’ve decided to number them to try to keep some sort of inventory) and I just love the wateriness of this stone. Wateriness – made up word. You might see a lot of that here : )
